Celtics rumors: Why team needs to land Andre Drummond
By Sam Minton
The Boston Celtics made some moves at the trade deadline to strengthen their roster, but they can’t be done yet. They need to make one more move if they really want to compete. They need Andre Drummond.
The acquisition of Evan Fournier was a good move by Boston. They got a shooter who can make an impact on games.

The problem is that the Celtics didn’t acquire a player who makes them into a contender. Boston is basically the same team that they were before acquiring Fournier. He wasn’t a game-changing acquisition.
If they want to reach that status they need to get one more player. Drummond seems to be the missing link.
Boston is desperately pursuing Drummond and it makes sense why. Drummond is a great rebounder who can also rack up points. He’s the type of player that the C’s have been desperately missing.
This season Drummond is averaging 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds. If he keeps playing at this level, 2021 will be his 9th season averaging a double-double.
Why the Boston Celtics need Andre Drummond.
As mentioned previously, Boston is desperately lacking in the paint. Fans have seen Robert Williams emerge as a quality player but Drummond would be a major upgrade.
Tristan Thompson was supposed to be the guy who fixed these problems, but that hasn’t been the case. There have been rumors that he isn’t fitting in with his teammates and Thompson has struggled to stay on the court.
If the Celtics were to acquire they would be a tough team to stop. They would still have to get through teams like the Nets and Bucks, but Boston would have a multi-faceted plan of attack.
Of course, things will primarily run through Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, but Boston’s second unit could be led by the likes of Marcus Smart, Fournier, and Williams.
Then you add Drummond who can both score and increases Boston’s chances of scoring with his rebounding. Expect plenty of second or third chances with Drummond down in the paint.
So Boston needs to make this move if they want to compete for a championship. As much as fans love Williams, he won’t get the C’s to the NBA Finals.
With Drummond, the Celtics can be a contender. Tatum and Brown will finally have the piece that they need to make a run. If this deal ends up happening, fans around the NBA should be very nervous.
