Absent future lock Patriots’ and possibly (should-be) Pro Football Hall of Famers, Julian Edelman, and Matthew Slater (not a wide receiver, of course, but at special teams), the list is truly awful.
A slight nod to David Givens is required here. He was decent for one season before he left for Tennessee and then was out of football. The second and third-round picks are especially hard to stomach. Nothing much at all there.
So, it says here to the New England Patriots, don’t draft a wideout in any high round, or frankly, any round. You can’t pick the right ones. So, the suggestion here is, go to the undrafted free agency route.
It delivered Jakobi Meyers, he of the 59 catches in 2020 Meyers. So why not? But, please, I beg you, and Patriots’ nation begs you, don’t draft a wide receiver high.
He will absolutely be a total flop. The other best option is to trade a pick(s) for an established guy who you know can at least catch a perfectly thrown ball. It’s the best alternative.
