Boston Red Sox: Bobby Dalbec goes boom in Baltimore, makes history
Boston Red Sox slugger Bobby Dalbec broke out of a 0-for-27 slump in a big way in Baltimore Friday night.
In the team’s 6-2 victory over the Orioles at Camden Yards, the power-hitting slugger flexed his muscles by delivering a key three-run blast in the fourth inning off Matt Harvey
The blast came on a hanging curveball that Dalbec wasted no time driving out of the park as it left his bat at 107.9 mph.
Not only did it put the team up 4-0 at the time, but also made him the 12th Red Sox player to hit 10 HR in his first 50 career games, with most of them obviously coming in his first 25 games.
But perhaps this 399-foot bomb will get him back on that torrid homerun pace he came to the majors with in 2020:
Coming a day after Francy Cordero broke out of his 0-for-25 rut, Dalbec said following the game that he was definitely inspired by his teammate coming through in the team’s 12-9 comeback victory over the Detroit Tigers.

"“Yeah, me and him had a few talks, and [we’ve] been pulling for each other and talking with each other after games, just so it didn’t feel like we were alone going through it,” Dalbec said, via MLB.com. “So that helps a lot. He’s an awesome dude, and I’m glad that he came up to me in Texas after one of the games. We talked for five to 10 minutes, so it’s great. It’s good to have teammates like that. I’m very fortunate to have teammates like that.”"
What’s good about this Boston Red Sox team is that the players are helping each other out. Not only are they feeding off of each other’s success and failures, they are lifting each other up which is a major reason why Boston is the first team to reach 20 wins.
Boston Red Sox legend Dustin Pedroia still making an impact
Following his 2 hits on Friday night to break out of his dry spell at the plate, Bobby Dalbec said following the game that turned to recently retired Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedrioa for some advice.
What did Pedroia say?
"“Just that this is part of it, just got to grind through it,” Dalbec revealed. “It’s never as bad as it seems, and it’s never as good as it seems, too. So that’s the whole ‘ride the wave’ thing. Just got to be the same guy. He’s awesome.”"
As Jason Varitek helped Franchy Cordero, it is good to see the connection between past Red Sox players and current Red Sox players play out on the field and in the standings. And that is the greatest attribute of Alex Cora as manager when it comes to motivating these younger players.
Not only can Cora give his own advice as a former player, but he was also a teammate with Red Sox legends like Varitek and Pedroia and can extend his coaching and motivation through them as on back-to-back days, those players were credited with helping slumping batters breakthrough.
In all, it is good to see the hard work starting to pay off for Bobby Dalbec and hopefully he had a night that will help him take off at the plate.
