The 2021 Boston Red Sox didn’t have high expectations from fans. After a disappointing 2020, Red Sox nation simply wanted a competitive team. So far this season, Boston has done that and more.

With Boston’s win on Sunday against Baltimore, they maintained their lead over the New York Yankees at the top of the AL East. At the beginning of the year, you would have thought that I was insane saying such a thing.

But the Red Sox have done quite well this season. They have exceeded all expectations and simply looked great at times.

Boston knew that they would have to rely on their bats and players such as J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts have been great at the plate. Also, Eduardo Rodriguez has been spectacular on the mound after missing the 2020 season.

More from Chowder and Champions

This season, Devers has seven home runs, and 25 RBIs with a .915 OPS. At the plate, he has been someone that Boston can rely on.

When the Red Sox have men on base, Devers usually ends up bringing them home. He has a .405 batting average along with three home runs and 23 RBIs with runners in scoring position.

The only problem area for Devers has been his work in the field. He has committed a gross amount of errors so far this season. Devers needs to be much more accurate and efficient at third base.

Sunday was another great performance at the plate for Devers. He was 2-4 with a home run and three RBIs.

After the victory, Devers spoke about how the success isn’t surprising and that he believes in his teammates.

"“We believe in each other. We believe in each other as a team. It’s you guys that don’t believe in us. But in this clubhouse and this team, we believe in each other and we knew we were a good team.”"

Why you should believe in the Boston Red Sox

With the Red Sox performing well so far this season, it’s hard to say that their success is a fluke. They have given themselves a cushion to ensure they make the playoffs even if they start struggling.

Boston should make the playoffs this season which will be a relief for fans. While it seems rather far fetched for them to go far, half the battle is reaching the postseason. Once you are in, anything can happen.

If Devers, Bogaerts, Martinez, and Alex Verdugo can continue to bring in runs, Boston will be tough to beat. When you pair that with E-Rod being an ace along with the possible return of Chris Sale, The Red Sox will be able to compete.

So if Devers has faith in the Boston Red Sox, you should too. This team can do some damage in 2021.
