Boston Celtics: Jaylen Brown injury closes book on 2021 season

Just when it seems like things can’t get worse for the Boston Celtics, they somehow manage to. Jaylen Brown is out for the rest of the season.

The team announced that Brown needed surgery to repair a torn ligament in his wrist. The timetable for his return is currently set at 3-6 months.

C’s fans should probably be patient as Romeo Langford had this same procedure and he was out for six months. That’s probably the amount of time it will take for Brown to return.

Because Brown and the Celtics decided to end his season, Jaylen will likely be ready for the beginning of next season.

Brown had another great season in 2021. He improved on his numbers for last season and once again made an impact for Boston. Brown averaged a career-high 24.7 points and 3.4 assists along with six rebounds a game.

Celtics fans likely would have wanted a more consistent effort from Brown and his teammates, but the numbers show that Brown improved. At the end of the day, that’s exactly what you want to see.

Why Jaylen Brown’s injury effectively ends 2021 Boston Celtics season

If you had any hope for the Boston Celtics, it should be gone now. At this point, it would be a minor miracle if they get out of the play-in tournament.

Even if the Celtics make it into the actual playoffs, they won’t go far. This team isn’t making it to the Eastern Conference Finals never mind the NBA Finals.

The Celtics seem to think that they can just flip a switch whenever they want to defeat teams. They aren’t a good enough team to do that and very few teams are.

Boston should begin looking ahead to next season. Play the young guys like Payton Pritchard and Aaron Nesmith. They can get some valuable experience and minutes that they need.

So Celtics fans shouldn’t be dreaming of a long playoff run, If they win more than one game fans should be overjoyed. After watching the team disappoint so much this season, it’s hard to have any faith in the C’s.

But with Jaylen Brown out, the Celtics have no hope. It’s time to look ahead to next season which will hopefully be much better for Boston. If not fans might see some coaching changes or players such as Brown or Jayson Tatum leaving the organization. Something has to change if Boston wants to win a championship anytime soon.
