The best part about the 2021 Boston Red Sox is all the fun they are having and how much they believe in one another.  It is also great to see childhood dreams play out on the field like Friday night when rookie slugger Bobby Dalbec stepped to the plate in a clutch moment.

With the Red Sox trailing 3-2 in the 7th inning, Dalbec locked in on Los Angeles Angles lefty Tony Watson with a chance to either tie the game or put his team ahead with a homerun.

Well, it was the latter for Dalbec as he took aim at a changeup down in the zone from Watson and launched it over the Monster seats to give his team a 4-3 lead and eventual win.

Take a look:

The late inning blast was not only the highlight of the game but was the highlight of Dalbec’s young career so far.  With all the struggles he has gone through at the plate this season, it was a clutch moment that has the rookie feeling a certain kind of way…

"“It felt great,” Dalbec said following the game, via MLB.com.  “It always feels great to be able to come up big in a big spot like that and put the team ahead, especially in the late innings.”"

Boston Red Sox young slugger Bobby Dalbec lives the ‘dream’

In leading his team to victory, how could Bobby Dalbec feel anything but great about doing something he had dreamed of doing as a kid.  To step up in a big spot with an opportunity like he had Friday night and come through the way he did was highlighted by the chants of “Bobby” following the go-ahead blast.

"“Yeah, it was crazy,” Dalbec said regarding the crowd’s reaction.  “Crazy moment, special moment, something that you dream of as a kid.”"

With a homer now in back-to-back games, Dalbec now has four on the season, which is far from the torrid pace he went on when he exploded into the lineup with 8 homers in his first 80 Major League at-bats in 2020.  But the last two nights may be a sign that the young slugger is on the verge of breaking out in a big way.

If he does, that would just make this Boston Red Sox lineup even more dangerous.

With J.D. Martinez, Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers having the type of seasons offensively that they are capable of, bats at the bottom of the lineup like Dalbec and Hunter Renfroe, who also homered Friday night, will just make the batting order more complete.

While the overall team’s expectations weren’t high (from fans and the media), Dalbec recognized back in Spring Training how potent this lineup can be offensively.

"“It has the potential to be a really dangerous lineup,” Dalbec said.  “If everyone’s clicking, it’s an extremely dangerous lineup.  We just have to stick with the process, just have good at-bats and see the ball and be patient, take our time with everything and just get it rolling.”"

Sticking with the process is starting to pay off for Dalbec as one gigantic swing at Fenway Park may have just sparked a young slugger on the path of something special.
