The Boston Bruins wanted to start their playoff series against the Washington Capitals on the right foot. Seeing that they are down 1-0, they didn’t do that.

Boston took the Caps to OT but was unable to secure the win. The Bruins struggled to get anything going offensively even though Washington was forced to make an early change at goaltender. This meant that Craig Anderson, who was extremely rusty, ended up between the pipes.

If you want to take the glass half full approach. Boston had their worst performance in a while and still was able to take the Capitals to overtime. If the Bruins play to their potential, they should walk away with the victory on Monday night.

So what does Boston need to do in Game Two? Here are the keys to the game for the Bruins.

Boston Bruins: 3 keys to winning Game 2 against Washington Capitals – No.3: The first line needs to show up

It was not a great night for Boston’s top line. In general, the Bruins top six was not good enough.

David Pastrnak was the only member of the top line to get a point in Game One and that was an assist on the power play. That isn’t good enough especially when Andersen was in net.

It’s stunning that the top line was unable to score when they were facing a rusty goaltender. This was the perfect opportunity to build some momentum and get on the stat sheet.

Ilya Samsonov is off the COVID-19 list and it seems like he could soon make his return to the ice. While Boston was able to take their time with Jaroslav Halak, the Caps don’t have that luxury.

If the Bruins are going to be successful they need their first line to be on top of their game. If not Boston could have an early postseason exit.
