Boston Celtics: Why Kyrie Irving has a point
By Sam Minton
The Brooklyn Nets beat the Boston Celtics on Sunday to extend their series lead to 3-1, but that won’t be the story of the night. That belongs to Kyrie Irving and the festivities that occurred after the final whistle.
It was another great performance for Jayson Tatum. He scored 40 points and continues to show that he is one of the brightest stars in the NBA today.
Sadly it wasn’t enough though as Kevin Durant put up 42 points along with Kyrie Irving scoring 39 points. The Nets talent just overpowered the Celtics.
Now Boston is just one loss away from being out of the playoffs. At least they will be able to say that they didn’t get swept like the Miami Heat.

But the night was still young. Let’s start with the first event that took place.
Kyrie Irving stomps on the Boston Celtics logo
Irving did his best T.O. impression after the win. He stomped on the Celtics logo in what can only be described as a petty move.
The funny thing is that Irving tried to do it sneakily. It’s almost like he forgot that he was in front of 17,000 fans and a national television audience.
But at the end of the day it’s just a logo. While that logo represents something, at the end of the day it’s an inanimate object.
That’s when things escalated and Boston Celtics fans shouldn’t be pleased about the events that transpired.
Why Kyrie Irving has a point
Some idiot fan decided that it would be a great idea to throw a bottle at Irving. This is just an insanely stupid and possibly harmful thing to do.
The bottle did end up missing Irving, but if it connected you don’t know what damage it could have done. Who knows where it came from and how heavy the bottle is.
Luckily the staff at the TD Garden was able to do their job and found the fan. He left the arena in handcuffs and he has been banned for life.
This is just one of many events between fans and players that have occurred between NBA players and fans recently. Trae Young was spat on by a fan and Ja Morant’s parents had to sit through racial and vulgar abuse in Utah. It’s truly awful stuff.
After the game, Irving spoke about the incident to the media. Durant also had similar comments comparing it to being in a circus.
At the end of the day, these players are not just basketball players. They are human beings and deserved to be treated with respect.
The NBA clearly has a problem with fans feeling privileged and confident enough to outright disrespect these athletes when it’s hard to think that they would do the same thing to the person’s face. The league needs to do a much better job protecting the players and not empowering these idiotic fans such as the guy who threw the bottle.
So while it might hurt some Celtics fans to say, Kyrie Irving has a point. Behavior like this needs to stop and these athletes deserve to be treated like human beings and not gladiators fighting for the enjoyment of the masses.
