When the New England Patriots lost Tom Brady, they also lost one of their biggest bargaining chips. Especially since most thought that Brady was the reason players came to New England, not Bill Belichick. It appears that notion might have been incorrect.

Who wouldn’t want to play for the greatest quarterback of all time? He makes bad teams good, and good teams champions. When Brady was in New England, you could almost guarantee that you would leave with a Super Bowl ring.

So when Brady left fans wondered if they would be able to bring in big-time free agents. In 2020 that didn’t seem to be the case unless you want to include Cam Newton,  but that seemed to be more of a necessity than a want.

But 2021 has flipped that script. New England has spent a lot of money in free agency bringing in players like Jalen Mills and Matt Judon.

So clearly players still want to play for the Patriots. Why could that be?

How Bill Belichick is showing his value to the New England Patriots

For Judon at least, Belichick had a major role in him coming to New England. At the end of the day, it’s hard to turn down the opportunity to play for the best coach in NFL history.

Around the NFL there seems to be a mixed view about Belichick. Some think he runs his players too hard and doesn’t know how to coach the new generation of players. When you look at Bruce Arians down in Tampa Bay, Belichick is a completely different type of coach.

But at the end of the day, players seem to realize that winning in the NFL isn’t easy. If you want to be successful you need to put in the hard work.

When you have Belichick as your coach, there is always a chance that you can make a run. While it seems rather impossible that the Patriots make the Super Bowl, they still have a chance to make it into the playoffs. Once you are in, anything can happen.

So as long as Belichick is the head coach of the Patriots, players will want to come to New England. Fans only have to worry about what happens when Belichick leaves. Then it could be tough to get quality players to call New England home.

But Judon’s comments show that Belichick still has value to the Patriots organization and likely will even after he leaves New England.
