The Boston Red Sox are on an absolute tear as of late. At one point, it was worth wondering if their season was over when they sat at the bottom of the AL East. Now, they own the third best record in the American League behind the New York Yankees and Houston Astros. Talk about a quick turnaround.

The Sox have been winning at a very high rate over the past two months now, and they have planted themselves firmly in the American League playoff race. Because the Yankees are ahead of them in the AL East, they currently occupy the top wild card spot, and while winning division would be better, that’s certainly better than where they were at the end of April.

The Boston Red Sox are finally catching the attention of the rest of the MLB

Boston has been winning for some time now, but it felt like many folks either figured they would revert back to their losing ways, or were just ignoring the Sox success. That cannot be done anymore though. They are one of the top teams in not just the American League, but the entire MLB, and the rest of the league is taking note of that.

In MLB.com’s recent power rankings, Boston finally made the leap into the top 10 after hovering around it for most of the past month, coming in at the number eight spot. After working so hard to overcome their painfully slow start to the season, the Red Sox have finally pushed their way back to the forefront of the league.

Even though Sox fans should be happy to see their team finally getting the respect they deserve, it’s reasonable to think Boston could be higher than they are. The Toronto Blue Jays are ranked one spot ahead at seven, even though the Sox are ahead of them in the standings. The Atlanta Braves are at six, but they are really only there because of their recent 14 game win streak. Over their last ten games, the Braves have gone just 5-5.

There’s a lot of reasons for optimism surrounding the Boston Red Sox right now, and the good news is that this team should continue to improve as the season goes along. Guys like Kike Hernandez, Nathan Eovaldi, and Chris Sale should all be returning in the near future, which is a good sign, because Boston’s schedule is about to get real tough, real fast.

Red Sox need to close June with a bang. dark. Next

The Red Sox have burst back onto the scene because of their ability to beat up bad opponents. Now they will have to spend a lot of time playing their AL East foes, and that will be no easy task. But if the Sox can continue to win, even as the competition improves, expect them to continue to jet up these power rankings.
