The NBA trade deadline has come and gone with the Boston Celtics being pretty much stagnant.

There were rumors for weeks about guys that could’ve been on the move from the Celtics, such as Grant Williams, Payton Pritchard, and Danilo Gallinari.

Everyone stayed on the roster except for Justin Jackson. Jackson was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, along with two second round picks, in exchange for Mike Muscala.

So with the deadline gone and the upgrade made, let’s meet newest Celtics big man Mike Muscala.

Boston Celtics getting a shooter in Mike Muscala

The beautiful thing about newest Celtic Mike Muscala is that he fits right in from a shooting perspective.

We know just how much the Celtics love to shoot the three ball under interim head coach Joe Mazzulla. They essentially win and lose games with the three ball. Win big when it’s falling for them. Lose shockingly when the threes aren’t falling that night.

With the 6’11 center out of Bucknell, the Celtics are getting someone that is shooting 41.3 percent from three point land. Yes, that is the correct percentage for Muscala.

Add that to the likes of Al Horford and you have two guys 6’10 and up that can shoot the three ball and play down low when needed. So getting a shooter is definitely what this Celtics team needs, as well as a guy that can help on the glass.

While gaining one player, another one goes in the form of Justin Jackson.

Look, let’s not pretend that losing Jackson is the equivalent of losing a guy like Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, or even a guy like Luke Kornet. Jackson is an end of the bench piece that probably was going to be gone sooner rather than later.

So get rid of a guy in Justin Jackson that was doing nothing for you and replace him in a guy in Muscala that will actually give you production. Talk about a win-win!

What happens for the Boston Celtics after getting Mike Muscala?

This is the question that a lot of Celtics fans have after the deadline has passed. Okay great, what’s next?

What’s next is the NBA buyout market. It’s the perfect opportunity for the Celtics to fill up a roster spot or two with veterans that are looking to help a contender.

Could a guy like Will Barton find his way to Boston? There seems to be mutual interest and the 32 year old is athletic and plays very good defense.

People that want to jump on the Celtics because they didn’t get a big name are wild to me. Why are we going to slight Brad Stevens? Because he only made one minor move that actually helps the Celtics with their big problem?

So let’s watch the Celtics for a few games post-deadline before we make any big assumptions here.

I like the fact that Mike Muscala is now a member of this Boston Celtics team. He fits right into what they’re doing offensively and he can help you cover bigs defensively. What is there not to like at this particular point?
