The NFL season officially ends with Sunday’s Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. But for the New England Patriots, the off-season has been in full force.

The big move of the off-season has been the (re) arrival of offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien. There have been other coaches brought on staff this off-season in Will Lawing and Adrian Klemm. Now the attention needs to be turned to the improvement of the roster.

One area of attention is the offensive line, specifically the tackles. A tackle that could be on the market soon is Titans 10-year veteran Taylor Lewan.

If I’m the Patriots, I’d get on the phone the minute Lewan becomes a free agent.

New England Patriots getting a cut tackle in Taylor Lewan

Taylor Lewan himself even thinks that he’s going to be cut by the Titans. Tennessee owes the ‘Bussin with the Boys’ Podcast co-host nearly 15 million dollars in 2023. With the Titans needing to move some money around for cap space, cutting the former Michigan tackle can be an easy fix.

This is where the Patriots can come in and get Lewan cheap. He missed all but two games in 2022 with a torn ACL. You don’t think Bill Belichick would try to swoop right in and give the 6’7 Lewan a one year “prove-it” deal to keep playing? That’s the legendary coaches specialty!

New England Patriots getting an upgrade at tackle in Taylor Lewan

If Taylor Lewan were to find his way to the Patriots, he would be an immediate upgrade over guys like Trent Brown and Isaiah Wynn.

I’ve talked about this in previous articles. But it helps to bring it up again because it’s still so amazing to think about as we watched this Patriots team in 2022.

Trent Brown looked disinterested at times. At other times, he didn’t look like he knew what he was supposed to do on a given play. Then there were the times when he would commit penalties that killed momentum on offensive drives.

Isaiah Wynn was the leader in the early part of the 2022 season in penalties committed. It always looked like he was being beat off the line and defensive linemen made it easy to get to Mac Jones. It would shock me if the Patriots picked up Wynn’s fifth year option.

These reasons should be enough to have fans easily consider why Lewan would be an immediate upgrade. Not to mention the fact that he went to three straight Pro Bowls from 2016-2018 with the Titans!

If the Patriots are serious about contending for a playoff spot in 2023, getting Lewan would be a huge help.

Next. Is Reid-Mahomes the NFL's new Brady-Belichick?. dark

The 10 year veteran lineman would sure up one tackle spot that desperately needs upgrading for this Patriots team. Then if you can add a Mike McGlinchey or drafting someone like a Peter Skoronski, then your offensive line becomes scary.

Should he be cut by the Titans, make the call Bill. Bring the boy to Foxborough!
