Boston Bruins getting eight more servings of David Pastrnak
The 2022-2023 Boston Bruins are an absolute wagon. Their 47-8-5 regular season record has a lot of people surprised and Bruins fans very happy.
They’ve been making moves all over the place lately to prove they are serious about contending for this year’s Stanley Cup. There was the trade for Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway yesterday. We also had the Tyler Bertuzzi trade Thursday morning.
Now, we officially have the David Pastrnak extension. The Bruins star goal scorer is going to be hanging around Boston for eight more seasons. The deal is for $90 million, which averages out to $11.25 million a year.
Boston Bruins securing their star in David Pastrnak
You have to give Don Sweeney credit for this move, he got it done.
We were all hammering the Bruins GM for MONTHS to get this extension done. And now it’s done!
This extension shows just how much the Bruins value David Pastrnak for the future. Sure, the way the Bruins are playing this season alone is awesome and so much fun to watch. Even for the casual fans!
But they had to start thinking about what life would be like after Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci leave.
Yes, somebody like Brad Marchand has a few more years left in the tank. But the Bruins can’t be relying on that if they want to continue to contend for years to come, after this season.
So assuring that a 50+ goal scorer per season stays on your team is a pretty smart move. Plus, there could be a certain letter changed on his sweater in the next few years.
Boston Bruins securing their future (potential) captain in David Pastrnak
As it stands currently, David Pastrnak is one of the assistant captains of this Boston Bruins team. But that could be changing sooner rather than later.

With the likelihood of Bergeron and Krejci finishing their careers after this season, it would make all the sense in the world to give Pastrnak the coveted ‘C’ on his sweater.
Marchand is an assistant captain. But with the suspensions and questionable on-ice antics, would it make sense to give him the ‘C’? Probably not.
Charlie McAvoy is another option, as he is an assistant captain as well. But is he ready to become the main voice and presence of this Boston Bruins team? Maybe not!
That leaves Pastrnak as the most logical choice. He’s arguably your best player and somebody that the young guys can look up to, day in and day out.
The bottom line with David Pastrnak and his extension with Bruins
This was the last big distraction that was remaining with this Bruins team. Now that the extension is done, it’s time to focus primarily on the ultimate goal: win the Stanley Cup!
David Pastrnak is here for eight more years, so us Boston Bruins fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
Hopefully, the contract doesn’t go to “Pasta’s” head and his production takes a plummet. Something tells me that won’t be the case, as this team is special.
So congrats to David Pastrnak for getting his (rightful) extension for the next eight seasons. It would have been extremely strange to see him scoring many goals in a different uniform!
