Boston Bruins victorious vs Leafs: Pasta does it again; Swayman shines
By Zachary McMahon
The Boston Bruins won against the Maple Leafs in overtime 2-1 on Thursday night.
The Bruins have now won four straight games including the shootout win against the St. Louis Blues and the Pittsburgh Penguins over the weekend.
This is the Bruins 61st win of the season as they are one game away from tying the record for most wins in a season in NHL history.
The Maple Leafs won against the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2 on Tuesday night. The Maple Leafs are 2nd in the Atlantic division with 103 points and being six points ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bruins have won the season series 3-1 against the Maple Leafs including the last matchup on Valentine’s Day when the B’s won 5-2.
David Krejci missed the 2nd game in a row with a lower body injury for the Bruins as he also missed the shootout win against the Blues on Sunday after suffering the injury in the win against the Penguins on Saturday. Krejci is also expected to miss the weekend games against the Devils and Flyers.
Oskar Steen was called up from Providence on Thursday and filled into the fourth line with Lauko and Nosek. Charlie McAvoy exited the game early due to an injury after a collision with Patrice Bergeron. As of now, there is no timetable for McAvoy and the B’s might decide to rest him for the rest of the regular season with four games left but hopefully will not spill over into the Playoffs.
Boston Bruins play of the game: Pasta wins it once again
David Pastrnak scored the Overtime goal against the Maple Leafs to help the Bruins win for the 61st time this season. This was Pastrnak’s 57th goal of the season. Pasternak now has the most goals in a season not named Phil Eposito as he has the four most scoring seasons in Bruins history.
Look at this game winning goal from Pasta.
Pasta also recently scored the overtime winner against the Blue Jackets last week and this is his 4th Overtime goal of this magical season.
Boston Bruins player of the game: Jeremy Swayman
Jeremy Swayman had 31 saves on 32 shots from the Maple Leafs as he was able to keep the B’s in the game until the Boston Bruins won it in Overtime.
This has been Swayman’s best start after allowing multiple goals in his previous three starts. Swayman has won his last six starts starting on March 16th against the Winnipeg Jets. This was the 3rd time in the last four starts that he has had 30+ saves as he goes through his hot streak.
The Bruins will have a chance to tie the wins record on Saturday night when they face the New Jersey Devils at 8 pm eastern on ABC/ESPN+.
