2023 NFL Draft Rumors: Patriots have serious interest in Zay Flowers
The NFL Draft is in three weeks and the New England Patriots are contemplating what they should do with the 14th overall pick.
In years past, we’ve seen them trade down in the first round or out of the first round completely, more often than not.
Of course two seasons ago, the Patriots used the number 15 overall pick to take Mac Jones. But we all know that pick had to be made!
Now two years later, they have the number 14 pick after a lackluster 8-9 season.
One name that has been surfacing around is BC wide receiver Zay Flowers.
Flowers has been linked to the Patriots because of their desperate need of a number one receiver and another playmaker on offense.
The talented wide receiver flew into Boston and didn’t just come in for a quick visit, to put it lightly.
BC WR Zay Flowers landed in Boston at 6 a.m. from an overnight Vegas flight and went straight to the #Patriots facility to spend the day learning the offense with Bill O’Brien on his visit, per source. New England has the No. 14 pick, three weeks from today.

So Flowers flew into Boston incredibly early Friday morning and was spending the day learning the offense with offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien. If you’re a Patriots fan like me and you’re looking for clues/signs for a direction at receiver, this is probably a significant one. This means something.

Why would the Patriots take the time to have Flowers in and spend time with the offensive coordinator? That seems a little odd to me! (Unless this is totally normal, somebody let me know!)
A lot of pre-draft visits have some other factors behind them. The visits show a team showing (seemingly) interest in a particular player or skillset. Obviously, teams will want to check on the player for their medical reports, any past disciplinary/character issues, etc.
But to have somebody come in and have them spend the day with the offensive coordinator and not only the head coach/owner is a sign that they really, REALLY like the player.

It’s good to see that the Patriots aren’t dumb/naive enough to be okay with the current receiver group that they have going into 2023. They need more help.

We’ve heard the rumors regarding the Deandre Hopkins and Jerry Jeudy potential trades. But it looks like those are slowly dying down as the days pass.
Maybe the Pats are trying to emulate what the Bengals did. Draft a really good college receiver and develop a relationship with the quarterback, similar to Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase. Yes, I know Burrow and Chase played together at LSU; but you get the point!
The bottom line with the New England Patriots and Zay Flowers
It’s good to see how the serious the Pats seem to like the former BC receiver. Considering he played right in Boston, the move to draft him wouldn’t surprise a lot of people.
Next. How Patriots can become a contender again. dark
I’m hoping this visit by Flowers isn’t a smokescreen to fake out the fans in thinking that the Patriots are serious here. The 5-foot-10 receiver can bring an element of explosiveness and good route running that this team could use. A playmaker, if you will.
So be ready Patriots fans. The next few weeks will be crazy and Flowers name will be coming up a lot in Patriots rumors. Buckle in!
