The Boston Red Sox's start to the 2025 MLB season has been a rollercoaster. Alex Cora's club continues to alternate between winning and losing streaks, making it difficult for the Red Sox to consistently build momentum early in the campaign.

Fortunately, some relief is on the horizon.

Beginning Friday, the Red Sox's next 10 games will be played against the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays — a pair of American League clubs currently playing sub-.500 baseball. The action begins this weekend with a three-game series against the White Sox at Rate Field, leaving time to tell if Boston can bolster its win column by beating up on the AL bottomfeeder.

Interestingly enough, the upcoming White Sox series could reunite the Red Sox with one of their former prospects.

Red Sox to Face Former Prospect Chase Meidroth After White Sox Promotion

The White Sox announced on Thursday that infield prospect Chase Meidroth has been called up to the majors. The former Red Sox prospect was traded to Chicago — along with three other prospects — as a part of December's blockbuster Garrett Crochet trade.

The White Sox's 40-man roster is full at the time of writing, meaning room must be made to get Meidroth into the lineup. It'd be surprising if Chicago didn't send someone packing soon, though, meaning all signs point to the 23-year-old infielder making his big-league debut against the Red Sox this weekend.

Drafted in the fourth round by Boston in 2022, Meidroth spent the previous three seasons in the Red Sox system. He ascended the system as time went on, culminating in a 2024 breakout performance that saw him record seven home runs, 57 RBIs, 105 walks, and 13 stolen bases while slashing .293/.437/.401 across 437 at-bats in 122 games with Triple-A Worcester.

Even though he's with a different organization, Meidroth picked up where he left off this spring. The Torrance, CA native was batting .267 with an eye-popping 1.050 OPS in his first nine outings (30 ABs) with Triple-A Charlotte, adding three HRs, four RBIs, and eight walks along the way.

Interestingly enough, a Meidroth-Red Sox reunion isn't the only one taking place thsi weekend.

After all, Crochet is currently projected to face the White Sox on Sunday. The reigning AL Comeback Player of the Year is off to a terrific start with the Red Sox, pitching to a 1.45 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings across his first three starts, leaving time to tell if he'll continue living up to his $170 million extension with a strong performance against his former team.

It's rare in sports for both sides of a trade to feel like they won the exchange. With that in mind, the Red Sox and White Sox are likely both feeling pretty good about how the deal is shaking out so far.
