3 Patriots on Thin Ice Heading Into the 2024 NFL Draft
It's a new era for the New England Patriots, and the 2024 NFL Draft is about to signal even further change for a franchise that has already said goodbye to legendary head coach Bill Belichick this offseason. The Patriots are picking third overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, and even though there have been rumors to the contrary, they seem likely to be picking their quarterback of the future with that selection.
But the Patriots have plenty of areas to address outside of just the quarterback position, which means we're likely to see a number of prominent additions made throughout the draft and a lot of players currently on the roster with their jobs and roster spots in jeopardy.
Which players are in the most danger with the 2024 NFL Draft looming?
1. Bailey Zappe, QB
One player whose spot on this Patriots team is likely in jeopardy as we get closer to the 2024 NFL Draft is former starting QB Bailey Zappe. Zappe was once a fourth-round pick out of Western Kentucky who frankly showed quite a bit of good the last couple of seasons. He probably deserves a shot to be someone's QB2 next season, and they only way that's happening in New England is if the team shockingly passes on the quarterback position with their top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
And as of right now, that just doesn't feel overly likely. The Patriots will have their choice of at least two of Jayden Daniels of LSU, Drake Maye of North Carolina, and JJ McCarthy of Michigan. The Pats did sign Jacoby Brissett this offseason to hold down the fort as the in-house veteran, so if they draft a rookie QB the pressure to play right away won't necessarily be there.
But if the Patriots do draft someone at quarterback, Zappe will be on borrowed time.
