Report on Mac Jones' Trade Deadline Interest is Incredibly Embarrassing
By Tyler Maher
The NFL Trade Deadline is here, and several New England Patriots players could be on the move before the 4 p.m. ET deadline today.
One notable player apparently isn't going anywhere, however, based on the embarrassing lack of interest in him leading up to the trade deadline.
Patriots Trade Rumors
According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Patriots have not received a single trade call about Mac Jones as of 2 p.m. ET.
Considering that several teams like the Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings (who traded for Josh Dobbs) were in need of a quarterback at the deadline, that is highly embarrassing. It shows just how far Jones' stock has fallen not just with New England fans, but across the league as well.
Just two years ago, Jones was a first-round draft pick and a Pro Bowler. Now nobody wants him.
Then again, why would they? Jones has severely regressed over the last two seasons, and his mediocre play is a big reason why the Patriots are 2-6 right now. His stats are middling and he's consistently shown an inability to put his team over the top late in games, always finding some way to screw things up.
Since the beginning of 2022, Jones is 8-14 as a starter with 23 touchdowns, 19 interceptions and only 1 game-winning drive. That's not the type of player who can turn a season around by himself.
The fact that the Vikings traded for Dobbs without even calling about Jones is especially humiliating. Dobbs was a career backup heading into this season, owns a 1-9 career record and isn't as good as Jones, but apparently Minnesota deemed him a better fit to replace the injured Kirk Cousins.
New England is stuck with Jones for the foreseeable future, for better or worse. If he doesn't start playing better soon, this could be his final year with the Pats.
