Troubling Mac Jones-Locker Room Report Emerges During Bye Week
By Tyler Maher
This season has been full of drama for the New England Patriots, which is definitely a departure from the relatively drama-free Tom Brady era that preceded it. From Bill Belichick's job security to another quarterback controversy to unruly players, a new issue seems to pop up every week for the Patriots.
Even with New England off on its bye this week, the team is still generating headlines. The Patriots surprisingly cut Jack Jones the other day, and now Mac Jones appears to be in trouble as well.
Beat writer Andrew Callahan reported on Wednesday that Jones seems to have lost the support of his teammates. A source told Callahan that an overwhelming majority (roughly 80%) of New England's players are out on Jones and have lost faith in him.
This tracks with rumors that we've been hearing for months about how Patriots players weren't all-in on Jones. There's a strong belief that Belichick isn't, either, as many believe that owner Robert Kraft forced his hand in drafting Jones 15th overall in 2021.
Given Jones' terrible performance this season, this news isn't surprising. He's been letting his teammates down on a weekly basis, putting them in tough spots and costing them wins with late-game mistakes. He's made too many bad decisions and often misses wide-open receivers, as he did at the end of New England's Week 10 loss in Germany.
Jones also seems to have rubbed many players the wrong way with his attitude. He was often seen screaming at coaches last year and has implied that his teammates aren't working hard enough this season, when in reality, he's the one to blame. Rather than try to rally the team or show signs of improvement, he keeps making the same mistakes. A 2-8 record and 10 interceptions speak for themselves.
It appears the Patriots have finally reached their breaking point with Jones, so don't be surprised if there's a new quarterback under center next year for New England.
