New England Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was in the middle of massive trade talk rumors this offseason, but remained focused.

Despite all the drama surrounding trade rumors throughout the offseason, New England Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is happy to be back around the team.

Now that the NFL draft has come and gone, the 2014 second-round draft selection out of Eastern Illinois can breathe just a little bit.  He can certainly smile knowing he will likely stick around another season with the possibility of taking over for Tom Brady.

During his yearly participation at the AccessSportAmerica football skills clinic on Wednesday, Jimmy Garoppolo took some time to address the kids after the event.  All smiles, he only had a few words to say to the media.

"“I had a great offseason,” Garoppolo said while walking past reporters at Harvard Stadium, via the Boston Herald.  “It’s good to be back.”"

It’s hard to tell if there was a little sarcasm behind those words, but he certainly has had one of the most eventful offseasons when it comes to backup quarterbacks.  Not only was he greatly rumored in deals with teams such as the Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears, he added some drama to the mix when his Instagram account was hacked.  In the cryptic post, Garoppolo appeared to be saying goodbye to the fans of New England.

Through it all, Jimmy Garoppolo has been impressive in how he has dealt with all the rumblings.  Teammate Patrick Chung, who also participated at the event, talked about how well Garoppolo has handled it all and how great a player he is.

"“He’s getting better and better.  I mean, he’s learning from the best one (Tom Brady), and he works hard and he’s getting better,” Chung said following the event.  “He’s always been good.  Now, he can be a guy.  Hopefully he keeps that going.”"

Entering the final season of his rookie deal, the speculation and potential trade talk will only intensify until Bill Belichick and the Patriots either sign Garoppolo to a long-term deal or decide which quarterback they will stick with following the 2017 season.

With the amount of money Garoppolo will demand, the likelihood of the Patriots paying two quarterbacks is pretty null.  It may all rest on the arm of a 39-year-old quarterback who is showing no signs of decline…as of right now.
