Patriots Gridiron News 10/27: Julian Edelman Explains ‘The Look’ He Gives Brady
New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman has a special way of letting Tom Brady know he wants the ball.
Julian Edelman is far from a diva when it comes to playing the position of wide receiver. When he wants the football, he just simply gives a look to his quarterback. On Tuesday night, the New England Patriots wide receiver explained exactly how he lets Tom Brady know to look his way.
"“It’s almost like a marriage,” Edelman said in a Q&A session during Matthew Slater’s Matthew vs. Matthew charity event. “You can ask anyone up here, we know these dudes inside and out. We see these guys more than our families. So you know to give a look to someone. I can walk by Rob in the locker room and just give him a look, and he knows exactly how I’m feeling depending on the situation. So I have one of these looks. I’ll give (Brady) the look, like …”"

Edelman showed the audience and moderator, WBZ-TV’s Steve Burton, what that “look” looked like. It was a look Edelman gave Brady a few times during the team’s 27-16 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The wide receiver caught 9 passes for 60 yards and more importantly appeared to get back in a groove with his quarterback.
But don’t worry, Edelman still knows Brady’s job is to find the open receiver and not automatically look his way just because of… “the look.”
"“I mean, he usually throws to the open guy, so it usually works regardless. I don’t really tell him, because in the heat of the moment it’s pretty crazy, but I do give him the look.”"
Coach Brady: New England Patriots fans will have to face a harsh reality when Tom Brady finally retires. There is always hope that he will return as a coach post-retirement, but the 17-year pro put any idea of that to rest during his Wednesday conference call with the Buffalo media.
"“Coaching wouldn’t be for me. No, certainly not,” Brady said via WEEI. “I like playing. I wouldn’t be a good coach. I don’t have the patience to be a coach.”"
Anthony Johnson returns: Just a couple days after he was released from the 53-man roster, pass-rushing defensive tackle Anthony Johnson was signed to the Patriots practice squad Wednesday.
To make room for Johnson, the Patriots cut offensive lineman Chase Farris from the practice squad.
The team has reportedly also signed former Oklahoma State safety Shamiel Gary to the practice squad on Tuesday. Gary has spent time with the Patriots previously. He originally joined the team as a rookie free agent in 2014.
