New England Patriots defensive end Trey Flowers continues to emerge in his second year in the NFL.

Chandler Jones who?  New England Patriots defensive end Trey Flowers is a rising star in the NFL.  In Sunday afternoon’s 16-3 victory over the Denver Broncos, the second-year player record two sacks in helping the defense secure the lead and eventually the victory.

Flowers has seven sacks since Week 8 and has posted three multi-sack games.  His speed and instinct are reasons why the Patriots felt they could get rid of Jones and has also limited the playing time of Jabaal Sheard.  Most impressive is his ability to play all around the defensive line, creating pressure wherever he lines up.

"“I’m not one to look into sack numbers,” Flowers said via Patriots.com. “It’s more about pressuring the quarterback, more about having him look at the rush instead of looking downfield at open guys. Anytime you can fluster the quarterback and get his mind rattled a little bit is big.”"

Flowers almost had a third sack Sunday afternoon, but his pressure did lead to a sack by Malcom Brown.  Flashes of the explosiveness Flowers is showing was seen during the preseason, but he didn’t get on the field during the regular season.  Now he is showing just what he can do when given the opportunity.  A luxury the Patriots’ defense is benefiting from.

"“He’s so underrated and he’s so young, he doesn’t even know how good he’s going to be,” Patriots cornerback Logan Ryan said. “That kid’s special. We see it. This guy is getting sacks as the nose guard. That’s just insane. He’s a great player. He’s definitely on the up and up in this league.”"
