New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler was excluded from the Pro Bowl, but is motivated by the snub.

Malcolm Butler is not a Pro Bowl selection at cornerback in 2016, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t one of the best in the AFC.  The New England Patriots cornerback says he is motivated by the exclusion.

"“It’s not a big deal,” Butler said Thursday in the Patriots locker room via Masslive.com. “Everything is about the team. I think every player in the league wants to at least go to the Pro Bowl at least once, or however many times they can go. There are a lot of guys that earned it. If I would have made it, it would have motivated me. I didn’t make it, and it motivates me. So it’s all working out for the best.”"

After he was selected in 2015, Butler was beat out this year by four AFC West cornerbacks, including two from the Denver Broncos as Aqib Talib and Chris Harris was selected along with Kansas City’s Marcus Peters and San Diego’s Casey Hayward.

That is no shabby list to be left off of, but Butler has been one of the main reasons for the Patriots improvement on defense towards the end of the season.  Perhaps it was his less than extraordinary first half of the season that served as the reason for the snub.

Brandon Marshall:  New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall said it would be “intriguing” to play for the New England Patriots.

As one of the more consistent wide receivers in the NFL over the last 11 seasons, Marshall told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News that he would join the Patriots if the Jets decided to cut him to free up salary.

The 32-year-old receiver is going through a long postseason drought and is intrigued by New England because of their winning formula.  Marshall knows he would be just a rental with the Patriots and said he would like to be a big part of the puzzle, which makes a potential marriage between the two unlikely.

"“It’s top priority, I would say, over anything,” Marshall said in regards to making the playoffs. “But there’s two things that make it really difficult. One, I love it here. And two, I don’t want to be a rental player for anyone. So, I don’t want to jump ship and take the easy route and go somewhere where I’m just a rental cop for a year or two and I’m not a core guy. I want to do it being a big part of the puzzle.”"
