New England Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to have teams real interested in dealing for him this offseason.

Right now Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are preparing to battle the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI.  No matter the outcome of that game, the Patriots are expected to have a decision to make when it comes to backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

Weeks after rumors first surfaced that the Cleveland Browns would have interest in obtaining the former second round pick, a report by Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reaffirms the Browns intention on at least kicking the can about a potential deal.

According to Cabot, Cleveland’ interest in Garoppolo is not only “real,” but an option they are seriously considering to finally bring a stable, potentially franchise-type quarterback to the Browns.  Cabot also notes that the team’s interest has grown after putting together their draft evaluations on Mitch Trubisky and Deshaun Watson.

With their high draft pick, the Browns will be challenged to use it on a quarterback who could take up to three years to develop, use it on a position player, or trade it.  If they decide to trade the pick, would an offer for Jimmy Garoppolo intrigue the Patriots?  That would depend on how much longer they feel Tom Brady will play at such a high level.

A future in doubt?

As far as Garoppolo goes, the product of Eastern Illinois saw his stock rise after he filled in for Brady for six quarters to begin the season.  He led the team to an opening night victory over the Arizona Cardinals and looked dynamic in the first half against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2 before going down with a Grade 2 AC joint sprain.

Garoppolo has certainly heard the rumors and when asked about his future on NFL Opening Night, the third-year quarterback said a potential deal is not something that he is thinking about.

"“I haven’t even thought about it to be honest, sorry,” Garoppolo said."

Once the season end, the future of Jimmy Garoppolo will be one of the top stories heading into the NFL offseason.
