With the NFL draft just a couple weeks away, the New England Patriots have worked out former Texas running back D’Onta Foreman.

Days after hosting veteran running back Adrian Peterson and with an offer on the table for LeGarrette Blount, the New England Patriots are also exploring the upcoming NFL draft for downhill running back prospects.

According to Mike Loyko of NEPatriotsDraft.com, one of those running backs is former Texas Longhorns running back D’Onta Foreman.  Patriots head coach Bill Belichick recently had a private workout with the draft prospect.  The meeting marks the second time the team has met with Foreman.  The first time was at the NFL Combine.

With some NFL draft experts having Forman going as high as the second round, he could be out of the Patriots reach as the team does not currently have a first or second round selection in this year’s draft.  There are still possibilities that the team could move up to take Foreman or he could slide down to them in the third round.

More from New England Patriots

D’Onta Foreman is coming off a 2,028-yard season in which he was awarded with the Doak Walker Award honoring college football’s top running back.  Although his weight and fact that he left college a year early to enter the NFL raised concerns, his performance at Pro Day has his stock raising.

The fact that he has slimmed down to 234 pounds and appear quicker on the field, the Patriots could get a player who could give them what Blount did a year ago.  Again, it will take some luck for a player like Foreman to slip down to the Patriots, but if he does, Belichick has shown enough interest to snag him with the 72nd overall pick in the draft.

The one thing that separates Foreman from LeGarrette Blount is his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.  Add that to his powerfully quick running style and whoever has the opportunity to draft the former Longhorns star could get quite the running back.

Hopefully, that team is the New England Patriots.
