Boston Red Sox starting pitcher David Price is on his way back to the starting lineup.  The left-handed pitcher says he feels “ready to go” after five-inning simulated game.

When two of your starting pitchers are named Sale and Price, you better believe there is some serious value on the mound.  Boston Red Sox left-hander David Price hopes to make his way back to the mound following elbow discomfort.  His return to strength could compliment the dominance of teammate Chris Sale.

After a 75-pitch, five-inning simulated game on Sunday, Price feels “ready to go” in his attempt to prove his worth to the city of Boston.

As the third part of the Red Sox three-headed monster, Price has been sidelined with an elbow injury since the start of the 2017 MLB season.  To avoid season-ending surgery, Price has turned to rest and rehab to work his way back to the mound.

While it could take a while longer to get David Price at full strength once he returns, the team is encouraged by his progress.  He is scheduled to pitch again for the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox on Friday night. If all goes well, the Red Sox will have to decide whether to activate him off the disabled list.

Is David Price worth the risk?

The team has to be careful not to rush him back too soon.  But, Price feels confident in his ability to pitch at a high level.  He also feels there is no risk in him having a setback.

"“If I didn’t feel confident in my abilities to go out there and pitch well, I wouldn’t do it,” he said Sunday, via ESPN.  “I wouldn’t put myself at risk and I wouldn’t put the team at risk. …I feel like I’m ready to go.”"

Hopefully Price is right about that ability.  Else, the Boston Red Sox could risk losing his $117 million arm for a longer period of time.  Perhaps a timeline that could extend beyond the remainder of this season.

Although the team could use him in the starting rotation, it is better to make sure the team will get a Price at full strength.  They don’t want  a pitcher who is one wrong pitch away from Tommy John surgery.
