On Thursday the NHL schedule was released, giving Boston Bruins fans a look ahead to 2017-18. These are their five can’t miss games of the year.

The Boston Bruins will look to make the playoffs for the second year in a row, this time with a little more success. Their season will begin with a ton of games against Western Conference opponents, including the new team in Las Vegas.

Boston won’t face their rival Montreal Canadiens until late in the season, with the first matchup coming in mid-January. Still, the Bruins will have plenty of fun games to watch or attend over the first half of the season.

These are the five can’t miss games for both diehard and casual Boston Bruins fans!

October 5, 2017: vs. Nashville Predators

The Bruins will open their 2017-18 campaign at home against the Western Conference champion Nashville Predators. Smashville showed the hockey world how great of an NHL city they are, and how strong their team can be. Bruins fans will still have P.K. Subban to cheer against, though the feeling seems to be that we are all just happy he’s out of Montreal.

The game begins a 6-game span of all Western Conference opponents. Boston’s first Eastern Conference game doesn’t come until October 21st against the Buffalo Sabres.

October 15, 2017: @ Vegas Golden Knights

Boston will make their first trip to Las Vegas on Sunday, October 15th. This will be the last game of a 3-game road trip which includes matchups with the Colorado Avalanche and Arizona Coyotes. The Golden Knights selected Bruins defenseman Colin Miller in the Expansion Draft, so we will get to pay a visit to an old friend.

Vegas will likely not be an extremely strong team right away, but they should get better as the season goes on and into the future. They’ve shown a willingness to make trades and more will likely come over the next week or two.

November 24, 2017: vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins have won back-to-back Stanley Cups and now the Bruins will aim to dethrone them. A matinee matchup in late-November is the perfect time to kick back and watch two black and gold teams go at it.

This game is the Friday before Thanksgiving, so before you begin to rush around for your turkey and sides, you can enjoy a well-played hockey game. There’s nothing better than hockey as fall turns to winter.

January 13, 2018: @ Montreal Canadiens

When the Boston Bruins schedule comes out one of the first things fans look for is when we face the Montreal Canadiens. This season, the first matchup doesn’t come until January 13th, and it’s on the road.

The good news here is that the Bruins will see Montreal more down the stretch. In fact, over the week from January 13th to January 20th, the two sides will face off three times. The final Montreal-Boston matchup will come on March 3rd in Boston.

March 10/11, 2018: vs. and @ Chicago Blackhawks

So maybe this is cheating a bit since it’s two games, but the Boston Bruins will face the Chicago Blackhawks on March 10th and 11th in a home-and-home series. The March 10th game will be played in Boston before both teams fly to Chicago for Sunday’s game. Luckily, both will be early games.

Luckily, both will be early games. Saturday the teams will face off at 1:00 PM and the Sunday game (as of now) has a 12:30 PM start time.

The Blackhawks may not be as strong in the Western Conference as they once were (see the 2017 playoffs), but they are still a test to see how your squad is doing. A sweep of Chicago in the middle of March could be huge for Boston in the standings as the season winds down.
