Jackie Bradley Jr. injures thumb in Red Sox victory over Tribe
By Ben Porter
During the Boston Red Sox victory over the Cleveland Indians, center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. exited the game with a left thumb injury.
Big things happened between Boston and Cleveland last night. Big things indeed! Oh, you thought I was talking about the blockbuster trade between the Celtics and the Cavaliers? My mistake, I should have specified.
While most of the sports world was preoccupied with the breaking NBA news, the MLB was business as usual.
The Boston Red Sox handily defeated the Indians by a score of 9-1, showing everyone that they can be the dominant power in the American League.

Doug Fister was magnificent in his start, throwing a complete game 1-hitter. His only earned run on the night came on the only hit of the night, a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first by Francisco Lindor.
The offense came alive, notching 9 runs on 12 hits. Eduardo Nunez led the way with 5 RBIs, including a 3-run blast in the 8th inning. Jackie Bradley Jr. was 2-3 in the game with a solo shot and Andrew Benintendi drove in two runs with a double in the 7th.
Jackie Bradley Jr., however, would have to leave the game with a left thumb injury after awkwardly sliding into home (safely, I might add). Many of you are probably upset over the departure of Isaiah Thomas from Boston, but I can assure you I will be more upset if JBJ misses extended time because of this injury. While X-Rays were negative, there’s no guarantee that Jackie returns to the lineup soon.
I feel like Daenerys Targaryen right now. My child just went down and there’s nothing I can do to help him. In baseball timing is everything, and this is a horrible time to get injured.
Looking forward, the Boston Red Sox play series with the Orioles, Blue Jays, and Yankees. In order to keep their rightful spot atop the AL East, they have to play well over the next two weeks.
Next: Watch out Aaron Judge, here comes Andrew Benintendi
I hope Jackie suffered nothing more than discomfort and that he’ll be in the lineup tomorrow. It’s unlikely, but we need to be optimistic. I’m going to put my outfield glove under my pillow tonight with the hope that JBJ heals overnight. Crazier things have happened.
