New England Patriots v. New York Jets: Week 6 preview and predictions
Somehow, the New England Patriots and New York Jets enter week 6 with identical 3-2 records. Here’s how I see the game ending up.
The New England Patriots are 3-2, and fans are pissed off about it. The New York Jets are also 3-2, and to their fans, it’s like being undefeated. In the 2000’s, the Patriots are all about winning, and as fans, we expect nothing less. A 3-2 start is not ideal.
In week 6 the Patriots travel to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to take on the New York (New Jersey?) Jets. Stephon Gilmore, Eric Rowe, and Rex Burkhead have both been ruled out, so there’s plenty of room for others to step up.
Here are my player predictions and my guess for the final score on Sunday.
Tom Brady: 33-39, 387 yards, 4 TDs
The Jets have covered the pass surprisingly well o far in 2017. They rank 12th overall in the NFL with 211.6 passing yards allowed per game. That won’t be the case though for Tom Brady.
New York hasn’t played many tough quarterbacks this season. They lost to Tyrod Taylor in week 1, and to Derek Carr in week 2. Taylor is never lighting it up through the air, and the Raiders got up big on the Jets, so the pass really wasn’t needed down the stretch. Then, the Jets played the Dolphins, Jaguars, and Browns. No quarterback on those teams worth even mentioning.
Tom Brady is going to light these Jets up. He’ll have almost 400 yards and I think he’ll throw for 4 scores. Once again, TB12 is going to carry this team.
Danny Amendola: 100 yards, 2 TDs
When Tom Brady has a big day, so do his wide receivers. Danny Amendola is on the field more than ever before, and he seems to be Brady’s go-to man. That will result in a huge day for Amendola, with 100 yards and 2 touchdowns.
James White: 8 carries, 40 yards, 5 receptions, 60 yards, 1 TD
The Patriots are going to get up, and they’re going to want to run the clock. They’ll obviously do that on the ground a bit, but they can get it done with James White through the air as well. Short passes out of the backfield have the chance to break loose when White gets his hands on the ball. That should be the case today when New England leads in the second half.

Trey Flowers: 2 sacks
The Patriots pass rush isn’t great with just 10 sacks on the season, but Trey Flowers has 3.5 of those. New York meanwhile has already allowed 15 sacks, so I’m expecting a big day from the defensive line.
Trey Flowers continues to improve each week, and he should thrive against this Jets team. I like him to get two more sacks in this game to get above 5 on the season.
Devin McCourty: 1 INT
New York will send Josh McCown out as their starting quarterback again this week. In 2017 so far, he has 1,020 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. For comparison, Tom Brady has 1,702 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 1 interception against better defenses.
New England’s secondary should be able to stop the Jets passing attack, even with Stephon Gilmore and Eric Rowe out. Malcolm Butler and Jonathan Jones will have to step up, but I think the safeties will also have a huge day. Look for Devin McCourty to get involved with a pick.

Game Prediction: Patriots 37, Jets 17
While both teams are 3-2, I really don’t think their close to being similar at all. New England has struggled, but they’ll find their rhythm today as the offense and defense finally have a good game on the same day. Special teams will be huge too, as I think the Patriots can win the field position and kicking game. New England will look to take a hold of the AFC East, starting with a Sunday afternoon win in New Jersey.
