Brian Gionta will not be returning to the Boston Bruins next season and proved to be an atrocious signing by the B’s.

Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney is busy at the NHL Scouting Combine in Buffalo but revealed that some Bruins will not be returning to the team.

"“Postma, Agostino and Gionta will not be offered contracts and they’ve been told as much. We’ve had discussions with Austin [Czarnik] and I think that he’s intrigued by what may exist elsewhere. We certainly haven’t closed the door [on Czarnik] and I don’t think he has as well.”"

One of the main takeaways from this is that Brian Gionta will not be returning. Gionta was an absolute waste of a contract. Gionta was brought along to give some veteran leadership but failed miserably.

in 20 games Gionta only had two goals, five assists, and a rating of -1. The Bruins failed to get to the Eastern Conference Finals and Gionta was brought in to help the team in the playoffs. I just don’t get why the Bruins signed Gionta. He is almost 40 years old, and the Bruins are such a young team. He went completely against the Bruins style of play.

It makes complete sense that Sweeney is not bringing Gionta back. He wouldn’t even crack the Bruins starting lineup next season. The Bruins are filled with some great young prospects who will be making their way to the NHL soon.

Don Sweeney hasn’t made a lot of mistakes as GM of the Boston Bruins, but he will look back on his move to sign Gionta and say to himself, “what was I doing?”
