The Boston Bruins need to beef up their defense, and Noah Hanifin could be their guy.

The Boston Bruins found out in the playoffs that their defense wasn’t up to par. They barely escaped the Toronto Maple Leafs and were unable to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning. The holes of the Bruins defense were exposed and one of the main concerns for the Bruins in the offseason will be fixing the cracks.

The Bruins have some great defenseman on the left-side, but they are mostly small and better in the offensive zone. The B’s need a big guy who can hold his own in his own zone. A name that stands out is Noah Hanifan.

Hanifan played at BC and was born in the city. He is a Boston guy just like Matt Grzelcyk.  Hanifan was liked by Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney who was hoping he could somehow fall to the Bruins in the draft. Sadly Hanifan ended up with the Carolina Hurricanes and has been there for 3 years.

Hanifin had his best season yet last year. He scored 10 goals and 22 assists. Hanifin is 6’3″ and would add some height to the Bruins defense.

Now the Bruins will have to give up some prospects to get Hanifin, but luckily their system is flourishing. Prospects are basically growing on trees. The Bruins could also throw in a veteran defenseman like Adam McQuaid or Kevan Miller to sweeten the pot and add an NHL ready talent.

Hanifin is the Bruins best option

Now there are some free agent defenseman out there, but it will be hard for the Bruins to land them. John Carlson is the best and is currently tearing it up for the Washington Capitals, but he will cost an arm and a leg. He also is a righty.

The Bruins other option is the draft, but the Bruins don’t have a first-round pick. It will be really hard to move up and get a big talent.

If the Bruins got Hanifin they would get a player who has already proved he can play in the NHL. That sounds a lot better than taking a risk on a draft pick.

The Bruins will look to have another dominant season in 2019 and Noah Hanifan could make the team a Stanley Cup contender by solidifying their defense.
