Boston Celtics: Kyrie Irving would be stupid to leave Boston
By Sam Minton
Kyrie Irving could opt out of his deal in 2019, leaving the Boston Celtics would be the worst move of Irving’s young career.
The Boston Celtics success in the playoffs this year has fans asking some questions. One of the major ones being, do the Celtics need Kyrie Irving? The answer is duh, he is one of the top point guards in the league.
Irving is capable of making shots from anywhere on the court. He makes difficult shots look as easy as making a wide-open layup. In one season Irving has already improved his defensive skill, and has grown to become a better team player.
When the season came to a close the rumors started to begin. Will the Celtics get rid of Kyrie to get Anthony Davis? the new one is will the Celtics try to sign LeBron? Let’s go to fantasyland and say that the Celtics are serious about going after LeBron James, Irving wouldn’t be pleased. James is the reason Kyrie ended up in Boston.

With that in mind, people are starting to question Irving’s willingness to re-sign next season. Yahoo Sports Chris Mannix believes that the Celtics are starting to fear Kyrie may opt out of his contract in 2019.
"“I think they’re scared. I think they’re scared and should be scared to some degree of Kyrie Irving walking in 2019,” Mannix said on his podcast. “I know he had a great year, but there are people in Cleveland that will tell you that the Knicks should be considered a real threat for Kyrie Irving. Because Kyrie had talked about it — about playing with the Knicks with some players in that Cleveland locker room, from what I was told.”"
Why would Kyrie leave Boston?
Irving has become the face of Boston. He had posters all over the city and became the focus of Celtics fans love and affection. Also the Knicks? The New York Knicks? Madison Square Garden is where careers go to die. They may be a bit more promising since they have Kristaps Porzingis, but they aren’t going to do any damage in the playoffs.
