New England Patriots: Julian Edelman may have himself a case
By Sam Minton
Not so fast my friends! Recent developments show that New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman isn’t as guilty as he once seemed.
When the news of Julian Edelman’s suspension came out it was saddening to say the least. PED suspensions are a long shot to be overturned, but the New England Patriots wideout may have himself a case.
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer is reporting that the NFL has no idea what substance caused the positive test. Maybe Edelman truly doesn’t know what happened after all.
"I was told Edelman’s result was triggered by a substance that wasn’t immediately recognizable, and there are scientists analyzing it."
Well that’s odd. The test was taken over two months ago so you would think that they would have found the substance by now.

Edelman definitely seems to not be as guilty as he once was. As of right now it seems like there is a good chance his suspension gets overturned.
Having Edelman on the field for the first 4 games would be huge for the Patriots. If Edelman is on the sidelines Chris Hogan would probably take over the top receiver spot. Hogan is rather injury prone, and Edelman’s absence could cause the Patriots to have a rough start to the season.
Edelman missed all of last season with an ACL injury. It is important for him to get back in the rhythm of things.
The Patriots are without Brandin Cooks and Danny Amendola which makes Edelman’s return even more important.
If Edelman is out Braxton Berrios and Jordan Matthews will have to quickly learn the playbook as they would be thrust to the top of the depth chart.

Hopefully Edelman’s appeal will be successful and the focus can turn back to what’s happening between the lines at Gillette Stadium.
