One of the Boston Bruins first moves of free agency was signing forward  Chris Wagner to a two year deal. The Walpole native is coming home and has a style of play that Bruins fans should enjoy.

Chris Wagner will make a lot of fans smile. Not because he scores goals, but because of how he plays the game. Wagner embodies the “big bad Bruins” mantra and will be coming home to play for his hometown team after the Boston Bruins signed him to a two year deal with an annual cap hit of $1.25 million.

Wagner is a 27 year old forward who has played 4 seasons in the league. He definitely isn’t known for his scoring as he only scored 16 points last season.

The one stat that Wagner dominated was hits. Last season he was second in the NHL with 253 hits. Plain and simply Wagner can destroy people.

Wagner should be a quality addition to the Bruins fourth line. He will be a pest on the bottom line with his physical play.

Hopefully the Bruins fourth line will be similar to last seasons. Last year’s group reminded you of the days of the Merlot line.

With the departure of Tim Schaller, the line will have to rebound. Overall they will need to score more goals. Schaller had 22 points last season which was the most of the fourth line guys. His shoes won’t be easy to fill.

I think Wagner will fit in well with the Bruins. I wouldn’t expect him to be a point per game player, but he will be physical and impose his will on opposing players. Hopefully that will lead to some chances for the Bruins top forwards.

The hometown kid will look to be apart of a dominant fourth line that gains Bruce Cassidy’s trust. They will look to do all the little things and make life easier for the Boston Bruins top scorers, and maybe even score a few goals themselves.
