The Boston Bruins signed defenseman John Moore to a 5-year deal and now has a lot of fans questioning the opening day roster.

The Boston Bruins biggest move wasn’t landing a goal scorer. It was signing another left shot defenseman. On Sunday the Bruins signed defenseman John Moore to a 5 year deal with an annual cap hit of $ 2.75 million.

Moore has traveled all over the NHL playing for 4 different teams in just 10 seasons. He is a big body standing at 6’2″ and weighing 210 pounds. Bruins fans will love this since last seasons defense looked like they belonged in Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. The Bruins were relying on guys like Torey Krug and Matt Grzelcyk a lot last season, and they aren’t known for their defensive abilities.

Moore is coming off one of the best seasons of his career. He scored 7 goals and 11 assists. Moore is the opposite of what the Bruins are used to. He is primarily a stay at home defenseman. Don’t expect Moore to be lighting the lamp too much. Especially since Moore put up those numbers as the quarterback of the powerplay.

The Bruins have to make a move

The reason this move is sort of perplexing is because the Bruins have a boatload of left-shot defenseman. Why would they add another?

You have to think that the Bruins are trying to move a defenseman. Krug is coming off of a career year so the Bruins could get a nice return. The Bruins could use a goal scorer and they could find a good one in exchange for Krug.

Even though the Bruins have a bunch of defensemen, I think they should keep Krug. He is such a great goal scorer.

Also Moore has said that he can play both sides so the Bruins could try and trade a guy like Adam McQuaid.

Next: Jaroslav Halak is a quality pickup

The Boston Bruins made John Moore a priority, hopefully he will live up to expectations.
