There have been a lot of rumors surrounding the Boston Celtics and Kawhi Leonard, but the C’s already have a player better than him.

It seems like the Boston Celtics and Kawhi Leonard will be linked until he leaves the San Antonio Spurs. There are calls for the C’s to get the “Superstar,” but they already have a player who is better than Leonard, Jayson Tatum.

Tatum had a phenomenal rookie year. He averaged 13.9 points and 5 rebounds a game in the regular season. Tatum proved that he is a quality shooter who can also get to the rack. He did all of this while still being unable to grab a drink in a bar legally. The ability that Tatum possesses at such a young age is truly incredible. The man dunked on LeBron James for crying out loud.

If you want to look at Leonard’s numbers in his rookie season they aren’t as great. Leonard averaged 7.9 points and 5.1 rebounds. Even if you want to look at Leonard’s 2nd season in the league where he averaged more minutes than Tatum, the numbers still favor the Celtics star. He averaged 11.9 points and 6.1 rebounds.

More from Chowder and Champions

Jayson Tatum was a much better shooter and averaged more points than Leonard. It is pretty clear that Tatum is already and will be a better player than Kawhi Leonard.

Tatum was almost Rookie of the Year and should’ve finished ahead of Ben Simmons in the voting.

What can Tatum improve on?

Tatum was named to the All-Rookie team and will look to continue to improve. One of the key points that Tatum could improve on is his defense. Tatum has proven that he is a great shooter and can get to the rim. If he can become a shutdown defenseman the man will be unstoppable.

Plain and simply I would rather have Jayson Tatum than Kawhi Leonard. Kawhi couldn’t handle playing in San Antonio with one of the best coaches in NBA history. He could destroy the Celtics locker room.

Tatum has proven to be a great soldier and loves being in Boston. Tatum dominated the playoffs and put the Celtics on his back. In the playoffs, Tatum averaged 18.5 points per game.

Next: C's aren't giving up the house for Leonard

Jayson Tatum could become a top-five player in the NBA. So stop saying the Celtics need Kawhi Leonard. They already have their superstar.
