The Boston Celtics rookie wasn’t able to go the distance in his first NBA summer league game.
Robert Williams has had a rough go of it as of late. The Boston Celtics rookie started off his career with the C’s by missing his introductory conference call, as well as his 1st summer league practice. Williams finally had the chance to show fans what he is capable of and didn’t necessarily take advantage.
Williams did not start but made an impact once he was on the court. He scored four points and grabbed two rebounds before being forced to leave the game. Williams collided with a Philadelphia 76ers player and banged knees.
The Celtics would later announce that Williams would not be returning because he suffered a left knee contusion. Williams has been dealing with knee issues since the start of Celtics mini-camp. He has continually gotten treatment for tendinitis in the same knee.

Williams showed some bright spots in his debut, but he wishes he could have lasted the entire game.
"“It’s definitely frustrating,” he said. “First NBA game, so obviously I wanted to be out there with my teammates, be out there with my guys, supporting them. But it’s a long road ahead of me, so body comes first.”"
The Celtics play the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night so Williams may be forced to miss another game.
Williams dropped to the 27th pick because there were questions about his motivation an love for the game. The summer league is a chance for Williams to prove his doubters wrong.
Hopefully Williams will be healthy enough to return for Saturday’s game, but if he misses a good chunk of time he will be sent to Portland to play in the G league. Williams showed he has talent, but he needs to show that he belongs on an NBA roster.
