The New England Patriots have no work left to do

Even though some think that the New England Patriots still have some work to do this offseason, their current roster is capable of winning a Super Bowl.

The New England Patriots have had a tumultuous offseason, and that is putting it lightly. The drama in New England has reached an all-time high. Players are threatening to retire, some are rumored to be getting traded, and Bill Belichick seems to be on his way out the door.

Now some may say that this means that the New England Patriots are destined for a bad season. The fine folk’s at Bleacher Report believe that the Patriots are one of the NFL teams with the most work to do.

That just isn’t true.

More from Chowder and Champions

The New England Patriots roster is one that can go all the way. For argument’s sake, we won’t even talk about Julian Edelman who will be serving a 4 game suspension at the start of the season.

The Patriots will once again have one of the most high powered offenses in the NFL. Tom Brady will be back for another season and there are no signs of him slowing him down. Brady threw for over 4,500 yards and had 32 touchdowns. Even at the ripe age of 40, he is the best quarterback in the NFL.

The Patriots also have the best tight end in the league. Rob Gronkowski will be back, and as long as he can stay healthy, will be better than ever. There is no ball that Gronkowski can’t catch and when he is the open field there seems to be no one who can take him down.

The other guys

The Patriots also have a solid supporting cast on offense. This could be the year that the Patriots running game explodes. With Sony Michel, James White, and Rex Burkhead leading the running game the Patriots should have a much more balanced offense in 2018. I expect Michel to get the majority of the carries and burst on to the scene. White will continue to be a threat in the passing game, and Burkhead is a happy medium.

The receivers aren’t that bad either. Chris Hogan will be the No. 1 wideout for a while and recent signee Jordan Matthews will be looking to get on the right track with his new team.

In the slot, it appears that Braxton Berrios should get some serious playing time. He could become a major part of the Patriots offense if he is able to build some chemistry with Tom Brady. Berrios is quick and would fit in perfectly in the Patriots short passing game. Hopefully, Berrios will have Julian Edelman’s incredible ability to get up even after the toughest of hits.

Finally, the Patriots defense will be much improved. They went out and signed Adrian Clayborn who will boost their pass rush, traded for Jason McCourty who will improve the secondary, and have Dont’a Hightower returning to be the leader of the Patriots defense.

Next: Travis Kelce is good, but Rob Gronkowski is great

So quite frankly it seems like the Patriots have done all the work that they need to do. Now all we have to do is sit back and wait for them to dominate the regular season.
