It seems that Malcolm Mitchell can’t stay healthy so it is time for the New England Patriots to get rid of the wide receiver out of Georgia.

The curious case of Malcolm Mitchell continues to get weirder by the day. It appears that the New England Patriots are starting to doubt if the wide receiver will ever play for them again.

It all started on Monday when it was reported that the Patriots were trying to find a trade partner to unload Mitchell.

"“The #Patriots have been seeking a potential trade partner for WR Malcolm Mitchell, per sources. Flashed talent with 32 catches in 2016 but injuries have been frustrating. May be odd man out in New England, even with Julian Edelman’s suspension”"

Now I don’t mind this move at all. Mitchell hasn’t played since Super Bowl LI. There are questions about his health, and the Patriots picked up some decent wide receivers in the draft and free agency.

Then things took a turn for the worse as it was revealed by the Boston Herald that Mitchell had a procedure on his knee… again. The procedure will determine how bad Mitchell’s injury is, but his season is up in the air.

So much so that the Patriots are expected to make a decision on Mitchell’s future with the team in the next couple of days.

It’s time to say goodbye

Mitchell seems to be broken beyond repair. If there is even a chance he misses this season you need to let him go. At this point, he is a waste of a roster spot.

Mitchell definitely has the skill to be a successful wideout. In his only season, he caught 32 balls for 401 yards and 4 touchdowns. In the Super Bowl, he had 6 catches for 70 yards.

With the Patriots bringing in Braxton Berrios and Jordan Matthews, they could live without Mitchell. Also, I think Berrios could have a solid rookie season.
With Julian Edelman out for the first 4 games, I think Berrios could take over in the slot and perform well. He is basically a carbon copy of Edelman.

Next: Tom Brady can't wait for September

So even though he may be a good wide receiver it is time to say goodbye to Malcolm Mitchell. The risk isn’t worth the reward anymore.
