New England Patriots: Jacob Hollister continues to etch out a role for himself
By Sam Minton
After not getting a lot of playing time in his rookie season, New England Patriots wideout Jacob Hollister is having a great offseason and may have a bigger role in the Patriots offense this year.
Jacob Hollister is increasing his chances of getting some playing time by being a smart person. He is quickly becoming Tom Brady’s new best friend. If you want to be a major part of the New England Patriots offense, ingratiating yourself to the best quarterback in franchise history isn’t a bad idea.
Hollister is doing all the right things this offseason. He is staying after practice to get some extra reps with Brady and is performing great while the team is on the practice field.
After practice on Tuesday, Tom Brady spoke with the media and was gushing about the second year pass catcher.
"“Jake’s put a lot of hard work in,” Brady said. “I mean, I’m really proud of him to come in undrafted, free agent and create a role for himself like he did last year and then have the ups and downs of a rookie year. He played some, he was not playing some and he’s kind of taken advantage of that role that he’s got and he’s willing to put the work in and that’s all you can ask for from a quarterback standpoint, from a guy who wants to get better and wants to improve. You can only do that one way, by getting out and doing it, earning the trust of your fellow teammates and your coaches and I think Jake’s done that.”"
What to expect from Hollister this season
Hollister is getting all the praise this offseason whether it is from teammates or coaches. There is no doubt that he will be playing a lot more this season.

In his rookie season, Hollister had more of an impact on special teams than the Patriots passing game. Hollister only had 4 catches for 42 yards.
All the news coming out of New England makes you think we will be seeing Hollister on the field a lot more. With all the injuries the Patriots are dealing with, Hollister has a great opportunity to become a major part of the Patriots offense.
Even with Julian Edelman back I expect Hollister to be hovering around the 4th or 5th wide receiver spot on the depth chart. That is definitely a major upgrade compared to his playing time last season.
Hollister is definitely someone you want to watch on Thursday when the Patriots play the Philadelphia Eagles. With Tom Brady likely getting some playing time it will be intriguing to see if Hollister gets some time with the first team.
This could be the season that an undrafted wideout becomes a major part of the New England Patriots offense.
