The New England Patriots lost Nate Solder to free agency in the offseason and hope that quarterback Tom Brady won’t be on the ground too often.

The New England Patriots lost a lot of players this offseason. Malcolm Butler and Dion Lewis are now members of the Tennesee Titans, but they may not be the Patriots biggest loss.

Left Tackle Nate Solder is now a member of the New York Giants leaving a hole in the New England Patriots offensive line. Solder protected Tom Brady’s blindside for 7 years and did a really good job.

Brady spoke to WEEI’s Kirk and Callahan during the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon and talked about how much he will miss having Solder protecting him.

"“I’ve been lucky,” Brady said. “I’ve played with a lot of guys, and I think that particular position, there’s a deep connection. I think center there’s a deep connection and left tackle, and having Nate there for as long as I did — someone I could always count on, rely depend on — he was so consistent day to day.”"

With Solder gone, Tom Brady will have someone new protecting his blindside. The Patriots drafted Isaiah Wynn and traded for Trent Brown to bolster the offensive line.

Wynn tore his Achilles and will be out for the season, so Brown is the Patriots only hope.

Brown should be able to do the job. He is a giant like Solder and is still a young player. Brown possesses tremendous foot speed for such a big guy.

The New England Patriots offensive line has struggled at times. Thankfully Tom Brady has one of the quickest releases in the entire league. Still, I don’t want my 41-year-old quarterback getting hit every other game.

dark. Next. Cordarrelle Patterson on right track

Hopefully, the Patriots won’t be regretting Solder’s departure this season.
