The New England Patriots released yet another veteran wideout on Wednesday. Kenny Britt is no longer a Patriot, and Tom Brady will be throwing to a completely different group of wideouts when the regular season starts.

On Wednesday the New England Patriots released Kenny Britt. I don’t know what has gotten into New England’s front office, but they seem to have a hatred for veteran wide receivers.

Britt didn’t play a ton with the Patriots. He played in 3 games and had 2 catches for 23 yards. Britt was looked at to be a solid veteran presence, but never really fit in with the Patriots.

The Patriots wide receiving corps is one giant humongous question mark. Fans started to worry when the Patriots released recent acquisition Jordan Matthews. Then the Patriots released Malcolm Mitchell and fans started to scratch their heads even more. Now the Patriots depth chart is weaker than ever.

Julian Edelman is far and away the No.1 receiver and Chris Hogan will be behind him but after that things are much more complicated.

More from Chowder and Champions

Some of these guys have some experience, but I don’t know if I am confident in this group. There are a lot of unproven young wideouts in the group.

Braxton Berrios has had a poor camp so far, and Devin Lucien has spent his career on practice squads, and Eric Decker seems incapable of catching balls.

Now some of these guys are having quality camps. I think Phillip Dorsett will have a breakout season and Riley McCarron is standing out as someone who could be a quality slot receiver.

Just one call away

At this point, I think the Patriots are forced to make a move, and all signs are pointing towards Dez Bryant.

Bryant and the Patriots continued to get linked, and if I had a choice between the Cleveland Browns and the New England Patriots, I think the choice is pretty easy. Bryant could come to the Patriots, win a championship, and prove that he is still a great receiver.

I think with Tom Brady at quarterback, Bryant could put up some great numbers. He could be a 3rd or 4th receiver and be another weapon that Brady can utilize.

If the Patriots don’t sign Bryant, it will be interesting to see the group that Tom Brady will be working with. Maybe we will see Matt Slater out wide this season.
