New England Patriots: Let’s just enjoy the greatness of Rob Gronkowski
In the New England Patriots 27-20 Week 1 victory over the Houston Texans tight end Rob Gronkowski proved he’s committed and still at the top of his game.
The New England Patriots offense will be just fine.
Why?
Because there is an offensive force wearing No. 87 still out there on the field catching footballs from Tom Brady.
In the team’s 27-20 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday, Rob Gronkowski showcased his dominance with seven catches for 123 yards and a touchdown. This all coming despite consistent double teams from Houston defenders and the fact the team really had no other offensive threats on the field.

What Gronk did out there on the Gillette Stadium field is exactly why Brady has so much confidence coming into the season despite starting the first four games without Julian Edelman.
Yes, there was a controversial 28-yard reception as part of that production, but the way defenders were hanging all over Rob Gronkowski, the fact he was in position to come up with a near catch in that situation was amazing.
While admitting the offense was less than perfect, Tom Brady complimented the greatness of his All-Pro tight end during his weekly appearance on WEEI’s Kirk & Callahan on Monday.
"“He’s just a spectacular player so you have to give those guys opportunities,” Brady said, as transcribed by WEEI. “They did a good job on him, just trying to keep him out of the game. But, it is tough because he’s so talented. He’s the best tight end in the league — probably the best to ever play the game. When you have that guy on your team you have to give him looks. We did and he came up big for us. Made the catches. He’s so well-rounded. He blocks so well in the run game. He runs every route, every part of the field — short, intermediate, deep, inside, outside, takes hits, runs after the catch, third-down, first-down, red area.”"
To sum it all up, Rob Gronkowski is and will be a big part of what the New England Patriots do offensively this season as long as he is healthy.
Ironically, Gronk’s big offensive performance came just hours after reports surfaced that the star tight end threatened retirement as trade talks intensified this past offseason.
According to the reports, Gronkowski said he’d rather walk away from the game than not play with the greatest quarterback of all time. That man known as Tom Brady. And while trade and retirement speculation dominated most of the offseason, another season is upon us.
Baring injury (knock on wood), New England Patriots fans are in for a treat. Other teams can have their Travis Kelces and Jordan Reeds, but let’s just enjoy the greatness of Rob Gronkowski because a player like him only comes around once every couple decades.
