Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson was looking to make his mark with the Boston Bruins this year, but it looks like he will have to wait another year.

Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson definitely had a chance to make the Boston Bruins roster. He is coming off a strong season down in Providence where it appears he will be staying this season.

Forsbacka Karlsson was competing for the 3rd line center job. With Riley Nash gone, we will be seeing some new lines at the bottom of the Bruins roster.

In Providence, last season “JFK” had 15 goals and 17 assists in 58 games. He’s a strong center who has proven that he can be successful. The question is will he be able to crack the Bruins roster.

“JFK” is going to be 22 by the end of the month. If he doesn’t make the roster in the next two seasons I don’t know if he ever will.

The Bruins are stacked with young talent such as Ryan Donato, Anders Bjork, Jake DeBrusk and Matt Grzelcyk. Forsbacka Karlsson is also competing with young studs Trent Frederic and Jack Studnicka for playing time.

“JFK” didn’t have a great preseason, but the move to send him down is intriguing. It appears that the Bruins favor Trent Frederic and Jack Studnicka over Forsbacka Karlsson. Since Studnicka is back in the OHL, Frederic appears to have a clear path towards staying in Boston.

Frederic has a great opportunity on Saturday night to make a lasting impression in Boston as he will be centering the top line in the Bruins final preseason game. If Frederic does well it could force the Bruins hand and land him a roster spot.

So while Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson’s stock seems to be going down, you are going to want to keep an eye on Trent Frederic. We may see another young star blossom here in Boston.
