Boston Bruins player outlook 2018: Jake DeBrusk could be phenomenal
Boston Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk had a great start to his career. If the B’s surround him with the right players, DeBrusk could turn into a star.
At the end of last season, it was clear that the Boston Bruins had found a perfect fit in Jake DeBrusk. His poise and professionalism helped the B’s win their first-round series against Toronto.
In twelve total playoff games, DeBrusk had six goals and eight points, including a game-winner in Game 7 versus the Leafs.
For a Bruins team built for the future, the playoff experience for someone like DeBrusk could go a long way in bringing a Stanley Cup back to Boston.

But I believe this is just the start of what could be a phenomenal career for DeBrusk. It seems as if this time, Bruins’ management wants to stick with their young athletic forwards.
In the past, players like Phil Kessel, Tyler Seguin, and even Ryan Spooner have been dealt. Now, with DeBrusk, Ryan Donato, Danton Heinen, and others on the roster, I believe the Bruins are committing to their development.
Should DeBrusk continue to be surrounded by other blossoming offensive players, and additionally the team’s veterans, I believe he could turn into a fantastic two-way player.
In the future, I could see him playing well alongside David Krejci and David Backes or even Ryan Donato if the team is willing to move him to wing.
As we get closer to preseason and camp, here’s what I could see the Bruins top lines lineup like with DeBrusk as a focal point.
- Forward Line 1: Patrice Bergeron at C, David Pastrnak at RW, Brad Marchand at LW
- Forward Line 2: David Krejci at C, David Backes at RW, Jake DeBrusk at LW
Ultimately, it remains to be seen how Coach Bruce Cassidy will design the pairs and trios heading into the season. There is a multitude of talented young players on this Bruins team who already have experience.
If they can tap into DeBrusk’s potential, he could be a mainstay in the black and gold for years to come.
