New England Patriots fans were worried about Sony Michel after a rough start to the season but the rookie calmed everyone’s nerves with a great performance in Week 4.

All you heard about last week was how terrible Sony Michel is. If you listened to some of the local radio stations you heard host’s talk about how the New England Patriots rookie was a bust.

Well it appears that they were wrong.

Michel was dominant in Week 4. He ran the ball down the Miami Dolphins throat on Sunday. There will definitely not be any Sony Michel hate this week.

The Patriots seem determined to establish the run game early on in the season. At some times it seemed like they were forcing the ball to Michel, but the hard work finally paid off on Sunday.

They gave Michel the ball 25 times and Michel ran for 112 yards and a touchdown.

The impressive thing about Michel’s play was his ability to shake defenders. A majority of the time it took multiple tries to get Michel down.

Michel also showed great patience. Rookies are known for trying to make big plays happen fast, but when you watch Michel run you see a sense of maturity as a player. On multiple runs, you can see Michel waiting for an offensive lineman or James Devlin to make a block, then exploding through the hole.

Sony is the perfect combination of speed and power. He may not look like Jerome Bettis or Leonard Fournette, but Michel doesn’t shy away from contact. It’s a trait that you have to appreciate as a fan.

The key thing for Michel going forward is to build off this performance. If he is a non-factor in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts this performance will be forgotten. Fans will be clamoring for James White to completely take over the running back position.

If the Patriots have a solid running game it will cause opposing defenses to have nightmares, and that is music to Pats fans ears.
