Boston Celtics: Gordon Hayward needs time to find his rhythm
By Sam Minton
The Boston Celtics have struggled so far in the preseason. Fans need to temper expectations for this team as well as Gordon Hayward.
For the entire offseason, the Boston Celtics were hailed as the kings of the Eastern Conference. The hype around this Boston Celtics squad is at an all-time high.
With that in mind, some fans have been disappointed with the team’s performance in the preseason. It makes sense, the Celtics are still getting used to one another and are trying to shake the rust off.
I think fans need to consider this when thinking about Gordon Hayward. The small forward is coming off a brutal ankle injury that ended his season on opening night. I don’t think we can expect Gordon to dominate.

Hayward is going to take a while to shake all the rust off. He needs to get in game shape and get his shot on target.
So far in the preseason, Hayward is averaging 7 points a game but is shooting 25 percent from the field and 10 percent from behind the 3 point line. It is the preseason, but I think fans need to realize that Hayward isn’t going to be great right away.
I don’t expect Hayward to be in a groove until after the first week of the season. After that, I think we will start to see Hayward shoot better and start putting up some quality numbers.
There is no doubt by the end of the season that Kyrie Irving and Hayward will become one of the most dangerous duos in the league. Irving will open up space for Hayward, and make the forward’s life 10 times easier. Also with the bevy of talent in Boston, I think Hayward will be able to play relaxed and let the game come to him.
Gordon Hayward will be a great player this season, but give him some time. Rome wasn’t built in a day and a dynasty isn’t either.
