Make Luis Severino work

Outscored 10-2 over the last nine-plus innings of this series, the Boston Red Sox need their bats to wake up.  Playing in New York, getting out front quick will help ease the tension and take some pressure of their pitching.

Quite simply, they have to make Luis Severino work.  Although the Yankees ace put out a strong outing against the Oakland A’s, the Red Sox have hitters who have success against him, primarily at the top of the order.

Andrew Benintendi is hitting over .400 against Severino and J.D. Martinez has owned the Yankees pitcher, batting .412 with seven hits in 17 at-bats.  But, the Red Sox offensive output will start with Mookie Betts and he is certainly due.

Silent so far in this series, Betts needs to prove his MVP status by getting on base against Severino.  In 30 plate appearances, he is hitting .267 against Severino with 2 RBI.  With how hot Benintendi has been against the right-handed pitcher, Betts getting on base ahead of ahead of the No. 2 and No. 3 hitters will put pressure on Luis Severino and definitely make him work.
