New England Patriots: On to Kansas City and toughest matchup of season
By Sam Minton
Week 6 may be the New England Patriots toughest matchup of the season. The red-hot Kansas City Chiefs come into town looking to dethrone the kings of the AFC.
The New England Patriots are coming off two impressive wins where they established their dominance against there opponents. After struggling in the first few weeks of the season, the Patriots seem to be in rhythm and ready to make a run for another Super Bowl ring.
Week 6 will be a test to see if New England is up for the challenge.
Earlier in the season, I believed that the Jacksonville Jaguars game in Week 2 would be the toughest and most important matchup for the Patriots. Jacksonville made it to the AFC championship last season and has an incredible defense.

Looking back it’s hard to judge the Jaguars success against the Patriots since they were without Julian Edelman. Now that Jules is back everything has changed. The offense is running on all cylinders and is imposing their will on opposing defenses.
A defining moment
So now I think this week’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs is the toughest and most important.
Kansas City is loaded with stars. Patrick Mahomes is having a phenomenal season and is looking to be a possible MVP candidate. Mahomes has already thrown for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns.
What makes Mahomes so special is his ability to extend the play with his feet and a cannon of an arm. The Patriots need to keep Mahomes in the pocket and not let him break contain. If Mahomes has all day to throw it could be a long day for Patriots fans.
The Patriots offense also has to deal with Tyreek Hill and Kareem Hunt who always seem to have great games in New England. Hill and Hunt are incredibly fast which isn’t promising for what has been a rather slow New England defense.
Kansas City’s defense isn’t bad either. Justin Houston leads a strong front seven and Orlando Scandrick and Kendall Fuller aren’t slouches in coverage.
So Week 6 will show if the Patriots are still at the top of the AFC. If they are able to contain the Chiefs high-powered offense, Patriots fans have nothing to worry about.
