Boston Bruins: Bruce Cassidy has beautiful problem
By Sam Minton
The Boston Bruins are in an interesting situation. Head coach Bruce Cassidy has two starting caliber goaltenders which is something Bruins fans aren’t used to.
Boston Bruins fans always have a lot to say when it comes to the B’s goaltenders. Well, this season it is hard to complain. Both goaltenders have been playing great so far for the Bruins.
Tuukka Rask didn’t have a great start to the season but after the debacle in Washington, Rask has performed rather well. Tuukka has won his last two games he appeared in.
Rask’s numbers don’t look that great right now, but the important thing is what you see on the ice. Tuukka has made some amazing saves and kept the Bruins in games.

It took a while for the Bruins to get into the game against Detroit and Rask made sure that the B’s didn’t fall behind. Rask also had a great play in the Bruins home opener where he made an aggressive play to stop a breakaway.
Now it would be great to have just one good goaltender, but the Bruins have two. Jaroslav Halak is also having a great start to the season.
I’ll be the first to admit I wasn’t expecting Halak to have such a great start. Halak had a shutout in his first game with the Bruins and is 2-0 with a .961 save percentage and a 1.18 goals against average.
Halak has come better than advertised and is giving Tuukka Rask a run for his money. I wouldn’t say that there is a goalie controversy, but if Rask falters I don’t think Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy will be shy about giving Rask an extended break.
So the Bruins have a great problem. If the two goaltenders can continue to play at such a high level it will be nearly impossible for anyone to score on the Boston Bruins.
